Compliance Designator Scheme
From RobiCon.org
RobiCon cable and board assemblies will have a common compliance designator scheme. Any entity creating their own assemblies for sale can use any part number scheme they like. However, the Robicon Compliance Designator Scheme should be used to refer to the part's compatibility in the RobiCon standard.
The Compliance Designators should be listed somewhere on the product (if there is space) or on the product packaging to help the buyer understand what aspects of your product comply to the RobiCon standard.

Prefix
All part assemblies have at least a prefix that designates the Type of assembly.
Type Description CONConnectorCBLCableHRNHarnessBRDBoardASYAssembly. Cable, Harness and/or Board together
Connectors (type CON)
Format: <TYPE>-<TECHNOLOGY><PIN-COUNT>-<CUSTOMIZATIONS>
Boards are usually what have connectors on them (the connectors on cables are referred to as 'terminations'). For the 'CON' designator is is recommended that the designer of the board generate a list of compliance designators and make that visible somewhere on the board. In addition, this list should also appear on the product label and product documentation.
Examples:
Connector Compliance Designator Examples CON-M03Three pin RobiCon Mixed-type connector is present on this board.CON-M09Nine pin RobiCon Mixed-type connector is present on this board.CON-D08Eight pin RobiCon Digital-type connector is present on this board.
Cables (type CBL)
Format: <TYPE>-<TECHNOLOGY><TERMINATION-A>-<TECHNOLOGY><TERMINATION-B>-<LENGTH>-<CUSTOMIZATIONS>
Cables part numbers have, at minimum, a prefix or TYPE of "CBL" plus a Technology code and two ends (or terminations) followed by a three digit code for cable length (in centimeters). Optional customizations currently only include 'non-stuffed' or 'un-stuffed' wires.
Part Number Examples CBL-M03P-M03P-025Three pin to three pin cable with plugs at both ends, 25cm in length.CBL-M08P-M04P-015Eight pin to four pin cable with plugs at both ends, 15cm in length (6-inches).CBL-M03P-M03R-025Three pin plug to three pin header cable, 25cm in length. This would be an extension cable.CBL-M06P-M06W-025Six pin plug to six wires with plugs at both ends, 30cm in length.CBL-M06P-M03W-025-02N/03N/04NSix pin plug to three wires with plugs at both ends, 30cm in length.
Harness ( type HRN )
Cables with more than two ends will be called a Harness and have a more complicated numbering scheme.
To be defined.
Board ( type BRD )
A number of common board types are defined to facilitate rapid prototyping needs. Board Definitions form factors are defined in a manner inspired by industry standard (ISO) paper sizes.
Assembly ( type ASY )
A Cable/Board combination or Assembly is a pre-assembled board and cable and sold or defined as such. For the most part, such a device would be a unique item from whomever manufactured it, but this category is an attempt to classify common and simple devices. Assemblies, as defined here, would generally be a small board (in a RobiCon standard board form factor) and a standard cable end. The cable might be soldered in but could also be a detachable standard type.
